As long as we are talking about bread baking, you must know that it does not get any easier than these soft petit pains au lait rolls.

These french milk bread rolls are pleasantly soft and spongy and an absolute delight to devour. Traditionally studded with pearl sugar, these rolls are meant to be had at breakfast or with chilled milk. However, if your taste buds call for something spicy, you can easy swap out the sugar for your favorite choice of herbs and spices, while retaining the dough and the process of shaping the rolls. The typical “tooth mark” on these rolls give them a differently gorgeous look.

Although you can rely on all purpose flour to give you a spongy texture that we all love, it is recommended that you try to get your hands on some strong bread flour. And if you want an alternative, vital wheat gluten can help with the gluten content in the dough, thus making it elastic and spongy. Then again – if you are just starting out – don’t even bother. I used neither bread flour nor VWG, and I still found these rolls to be great.   (more…)

True story, people!

You know me; I despise any recipe that calls for too many complicated steps (which is also probably why I would fail miserably as a Chef! 😀 ). I ain’t got time for that! I’m all about minimum efforts and maximum results.

And this ice cream recipe is just a perfect example of my mantra. Okay, it isn’t as easy as making a garlic toast, but once you get your concepts right, you’ll be a pro at making ice creams of virtually any flavor in the world. A good place to start would be my vanilla ice cream. It is the most basic recipe for an ice cream which you can use to make amazing variations with.

And one such amazing variation is this Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream!   (more…)

One of my favorite memories growing up was having bowls of creamy vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce.

Who am I kidding? It still is my favorite pastime. But now, I’m a little more daring when it comes to ice cream flavors! I’ve graduated to the more adult flavors like Pistachio, Mint, Pralines, Green Apple etc. I’m not saying I have ice cream everyday (if only it were as healthy as a soup or some granola), but I definitely look forward to enjoying solitude with a flavor to suit my mood.

Mint is one such flavor that puts me in a happy place! The subtlety of the mint flavor along with the occasional sweetness of the semi-sweet chocolate chips puts this ice cream on top of my list of favorite flavors.

I’m not entirely sure of the origin of the brilliant mint chocolate chip ice cream. But what I do know is that When Baskin Robbins came to India, they brought with them a myriad of flavors, of which Mint Chocolate Chip became my go-to guilty pleasure.     (more…)
