Fresh cubes of paneer delicately spiced with garam masala and sandwiched between fresh veggies in a hot and soft roll!

I’ve made a Subway-inspired Sandwich before. The success of that recipe inspired me to recreate some of my favorite Subs with an Indian twist. This paneer tikka subway sandwich combines the fine art of sandwich making with classic North Indian flavors. Unlike a typical paneer tikka masala, this recipe for Paneer tikka doesn’t call for too many ingredients. With a tonne of protein packed into a little sandwich, this is also a great healthy option for snack or lunch or dinner time.   (more…)

There comes a point in every Indian vegetarian’s life when he or she stops to wonder –  Is Paneer the only substitute for meat? The answer is – mostly – Yes. Most of the fabulous recipes which use meat can be suitably modified to create healthy and tasty vegetarian dishes. And instead of the meat component, Paneer is used.

With around 18 grams of protein per 100 grams of Paneer, it is also widely accepted as an excellent protein source for vegetarians. Of course, there are many more faux meat substitutes available in the market these days. And then there is Tofu. But none of these substitutes come close to the flavor and flexibility offered by Paneer – IMO.

I created this burger recipe with leftover paneer. After having enjoyed a rich meal of Paneer Pasanda and Naan the previous day, I was in no mood for another royal meal. I wanted something light, fresh and healthy – and most importantly – I wanted to use up all the leftover paneer and grilled veggies. This burger is as healthy as it is delicious. And it hardly takes 15-20 minutes from start to finish. If you’re looking for a nice Indian-inspired veggie burger – this is a great recipe!   (more…)

To a regular person, food is a necessity to survive. For me, it is the essence of my soul!!! Food and books are the only two things that nourish my soul like no other experience / thing ever could!

And because I’m madly in love with all the food that I’ve cooked / eaten / yet to cook / yet to eat, I’ve made a list of foods I want to eat before I die. For a food nerd such as myself, that means almost every single dish ever invented by mankind.

But we’ll get to that list later. For now, I’m happily munching on this Indianized version of a Subway Sandwich (which – FYI – has been on my to-cook list for about 2 years now).  Pretty much following McDonald’s footsteps, Subway came to India with a bunch of Indian-inspired sandwiches. And their customization has paid off big time. Subway today sells some of the best sandwiches in India of which this Veggie Patty Sub is a favorite among vegetarians. (more…)

I’d be lying if I said I don’t dream about McAloo Tikki. Come on. Haven’t you? even writing about it makes me smile with a foolish fondness I reserve for very few people / things in my life. This & this being 2 of them.

Every visit to Mcdonald’s has me ordering the same burger over and over again. One of the many reasons I love Indian food is that it just makes ANY dish taste 10 times better! Well, maybe not. Maybe it is just my preference, but there’s no denying the fact that Indian food is incredibly tasty.

The classic American burger was given a desi twist when McDonald’s came to India – to adhere to the Indian taste preferences. And with this customization, McDonald’s drew millions of Indians out of their homes and into its little eateries – to consume one of their many desi burgers.

While I do thank Mcdonald’s for its genius inventions, I’m also starting to understand the science of cooking food. And as much as I love making my life easier by paying a few bucks for a quick fast food, I know that my body will thank me for every bit of morsel I cook at home – with so much care. Now, we all have to find a trade-off somewhere right?    (more…)
