The tender coconut flesh (also known as meat or Malai in Hindi) adds a great texture to the ice cream. I enjoy a bowl of creamy ice cream that surprises me with different textures – and this ice cream does the job perfectly!

Mangoes are in season!

I’m yet to meet someone who despises mangoes. How can one really?  For someone with a sweet tooth as intense as mine, desserts are the bane of our existence! Moderation, Special occasions are words we don’t find in our dictionary. But dessert cravings can be managed. A mango is all I need to forget about that chocolate cake (wait – did I say cake? gotta make me some of that now!).

Aamras is simply mango puree flavored with cardamom or ginger. That’s it. You can probably stop reading now since that’s all there is to this recipe! But if you want, I’ll write it out for you!

I have fond memories of eating the thenkuzhal dough year after year during Diwali. Yeah, I’m a dough-eater. Don’t judge, okay? Sometimes, dough tastes amazing! And so does the end dish of the dough.

We make this snack about once or twice a year during festivals (most commonly during Diwali). We would make it more often, but the lengthy process often stops us from making the extra effort more frequently. Once in a while though – I urge you to try this snack – for this is a great one to have in your culinary repertoire.  (more…)
