Holi, known as the festival of colors is celebrated all over India and Nepal. This festival announces the arrival of spring – the season of hope and new beginnings. During Holi, people get together and rejoice with colors, foods, and drinks to express happiness and symbolically celebrate life with the victory of good over evil and spread the message of love, unity, and peace.

It is worth visiting India during this time to witness and experience the exuberance of this festival. Food is, as always, a very significant aspect of this festival. An Indian intoxicating drink – Bhang Lassi – is very popular this time around. Besides this, a lot of delicious, deep fried goodies and sweets are made to celebrate Holi. Baked French Fries Recipe | Best Crispy Oven "Fries" recipe written by Kavitha Ramaswamy of Foodomania.com

French fries are by far the most highly requested recipe here on Foodomania. While there are a gazillion recipes out there on the internet, I wanted to wait until I had nailed the perfect technique to make this classic. Low Fat Mirchi Bhajiya Recipe | Indian Jalape√Īo Fritters written by Kavitha Ramaswamy of Foodomania.com

My dear Desi friends,

You are going to adore this recipe. I only stress on the¬†desi friends bit because I’m not sure those of you with a lower threshold for spice will want¬†to make + eat this goodie. Mirchi Bhajiya is an Indian favorite¬†– something that is considered to be a perfect snack with tea on a cold, rainy day.¬†Fiery hot,¬†stuffed with a potato filling and deep fried to crispy perfection is how a traditional¬†Mirchi Bhajiya¬†is supposed to be.

You may want to check out my original post where I did the whole deep frying bit. That was wayyyyyy back in 2012. I was young. And thin. And had a metabolism of a horse. ūüėõ But now that I’m being a bit more conscious about the kind of foods I eat, I ensure¬†to keep it as healthy as possible. If there is a healthier alternative, I definitely prefer that over deep frying. Which is why when my friends at Tupperware sent me their new Steam it, I couldn’t wait to try something innovative as opposed to just steaming veggies. Just you wait. You’re going to want to scroll down to see how brilliant this steamer is and how you can use it¬†in so may ways!

Easy to put together pesto swirl rolls with a hint of exotic herbs and extra cheese!

Pesto Swirl Rolls Recipe | Easy Cheesy Bread Rolls | Written by Kavitha Ramaswamy of Foodomania.com

First things first: Swirls add a pinch of happiness to the food. Am I right or what? ūüėÄ I’m a big believer in spending¬†little time cooking and¬†as much¬†time eating. But I do like a little zing in my food. I mean, how often can you eat the same bread over and over again? I am a carbaholic and I love bread. But a little twist every now and then makes eating bread a much more fun experience. And making swirl rolls are just so darn easy, that I often¬†forego a pizza or a tortilla for these babies.

Sorry to have called these pesto swirl rolls babies. But these are adorable looking and just a pleasure to devour! Serve them with my super healthy barley vegetable soup for a complete meal.

If you’re like me, you probably stock some pizza dough in your freezer at all times. If you don’t, well a) WHY AREN’T YOU? and b) It doesn’t take much time to make the dough from scratch either. (If you’re looking for a healthier version, I’ve got a great whole wheat pizza dough recipe too) And the filling is where you bring on your A-game! There are literally 100s of pesto varieties and you get to switch things up every time you make these rolls. ¬† (more…)
