Since I discovered how amazing buttermilk is in baking, I’ve been wanting to try my hand at the very popular (and sometimes feared) buttermilk biscuits. I get why people might not light to attempt making these from scratch at home. While the ingredients required to make the dough are very few and very basic, the steps are very particular. You absolutely must keep everything as cold as possible – from mixing the dough till baking the biscuits. And when you’re working with so much butter, it isn’t the most easy thing to do.

A quick look at the recipes on this blog will reveal 2 things: I’m obsessed with chocolate and rice. There is no dearth of recipes using either of the 2 ingredients. When it comes to dessert, I love using chocolate more than anything else. And when it comes to entrée, the desi soul in me automatically looks for something with rice in it.

I mean how could you not love rice right? It is fluffy, flavorful and such a delight to eat. This recipe for Masala Bhaat is wonderful – not just because it is so easy to make and tastes delicious, but also because it is such a wholesome meal when served with a bowl of yogurt.    (more…)

A simple chocolate sponge cake cut into layers, sandwiched with some homemade caramel sauce and chocolate fudge frosting. That’s what this gateau is. If you have the frosting ready, this shouldn’t take more than an hour-hour and a half to put together. A Gateau is just a fancy name for cake with layers – layers of cake, frosting, fruit and other delicious things you find in desserts. Since I’m a huge fan of chocolate (who isn’t) and caramel (again, who isn’t?), I thought this would be an ideal way to kick off the next year of Foodomania!   (more…)
