Serves: 1 mug cake
Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons All Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Brown Sugar (or regular sugar) {adjust to taste}
  • a pinch of Salt
  • a pinch of Baking Soda
  • a pinch of Baking Powder
  • 2 teaspoons Vegetable Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Milk (or more, if required)
  • 2 tablespoons of Caramel Sauce (or more)
  • Caramel Melts Candy (if not available, use more caramel sauce instead)
  • Funfetti / Butterscotch Chips for decoration (optional)
Note
  • This recipe makes one small bowl / mug cake. If you wish to make multiple cakes, just increase the amount of all the ingredients proportionately.
Instructions
  1. Mix flour, salt, sugar, baking powder & baking soda in a mixing bowl
  2. Add oil, 1 tablespoon caramel sauce and milk. Mix until the dry is mixe dinto wet mixture to form a smooth batter. If you over-mix, you will end up with a tough texture
  3. In a microwave safe bowl, fill half with the batter.
  4. Add a caramel melts candy in the center. If you don't have the candy, add about 1 tablespoon of chilled caramel sauce in the center
  5. Fill the bowl/mug with remaining batter
  6. Microwave on full power for 1.5 minutes. Let it cool for 2 minutes.
  7. To serve, add some more caramel sauce on top and sprinkle funfetti or butterscotch on top.
Notes
  1. If your micorwave does not have temperatures, just set the time & start
  2. Caramel melts is a sort of caramel candy that melts. It would work best for this recipe. But if you can't find it in your area, just chilled caramel sauce instead.
  3. You can make your own caramel sauce or buy from the store as well
  4. Serve in the bowl as is. It isn't possible to get out the cake onto a serving plate without disintegrating it. Hence, it is a mug cake! You can also make these in microwave safe ramekins
  5. You have to make and consume immediately. This cake does not taste good when reheated. If you want to make ahead of time for a party, make the batter and assemble in the ramekins. Just before serving, microwave for about 1.5 minutes and serve!

*Footnote: Use pretty ramekins or mugs to make this caramel mug cake. That way, you can cook and serve in the same bowls. I used my homemade microwave caramel sauce for this recipe. If you can find it, caramel melts candy work best for this recipe!
