Roasted Makhana (Foxnut) ~ healthy snack

Popularly known as “Phool Makhana”  in India, Euryale ferox or fox nut is native to eastern Asia and Russia. It is nutritionally dense, loaded with proteins, calcium, phosphorous, kerotine, iron, zinc, and vitamin B! And better yet, it tastes amazing! It is an excellent substitute to the nutrition-less Popcorn!

This stuff does not come very cheap. Apparently, the process of popping these and making them marketable involves intense labor! And so I paid 60 rupees for 100 grams! But Amazon sells it for a good price.

This is how it looks like

ROASTED MAKHANA RECIPE

Ingredients

2 cups Makhana
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp chaat powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp red chili powder1/2 tsp pepper powder
1 tsp Ghee (clarified butter) or oil

Method

1. Heat ghee on a large wok.

2. Add in the Makhana & roast it on medium flame for 5 minutes. It will get crispy

3. Season with salt, pepper, chaat powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder and mix well.

4. Roast until nice & crunchy!

Alternative: You could roast it in the Microwave too. Just add in the ghee, salt, pepper (& other flavors) and add in makhana. Mix well & MW for 2 min. Remove, str and back for another 1 min. It will be crisp.

You must give this a try at least once in your lifetime! :D

You can skip to the end and leave a response. Pinging is currently not allowed.
