Vanilla & Prune Scones

Make a fresh batch of Vanilla scented Prune Scones to get your house smelling like a heavenly baking store!

Vanilla and Prune Scones | Best Eggless Scones Step by Step Recipe How did it take me 22 years of my life to try my first scone?! You should sue me for gross negligence! πŸ˜›

Actually, we don’t really have the concept of a “scone” in India. I’ve never seen any bakery sell scones here. (If you know of any, please – do tell!). But I’m glad I went ahead and tried these. The Vanilla extract used in here gave a wonderful scent to the Scones and the Prunes was just the much needed additional “healthy” ingredient to this otherwise sinful quick-bread! πŸ™‚

Vanilla and Prune Scones | Best Eggless Scones Step by Step Recipe Here’s a fun fact. I never make large batches of anything! I like to cook as less as I can for 2 reasons > If it turns out bad – I won’t waste a lot of ingredients and If it turns out good – well, that’s just smart portion control! πŸ˜‰ But the printable recipe usually gives you quantities to make a decent batch to feed 6-8 people. Are you like me? Do you always halve / quarter any recipe you make?!

18th Dec 2013 UPDATE: A very kind reader sent me a long email explaining WHY this isn’t a “scone” recipe at all. I’m confused as to what to call this now as I merely made some adjustments to another recipe. But trust me, this is still delicious. It sounds hollow when you tap it and has texture exactly like a scone. You tell me if you think this is a scone or not!

  5. Add the vanilla, Buttermilk (or milk / cream) and mix gently to form a soft dough. Don't need too much.

  7. Flatten the dough to shape into a circle or rectangle about ¾th of an inch thick. Cut into 8 triangles (or use a cookie cutter to cut into circles)
  8. Place onto the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top with milk / cream / egg-wash and sprinkle some raw sugar on top
  9. Bake for 17 to 18 minutes at 200C/400F or until golden brown. You can glaze the top with chocolate sauce or any sauce you like. Or serve as is.
Note
  1. Store in the refrigerator upto 3 days. Warm before serving

Note: You can make these scones without the Prunes as well. Plain Vanilla Scones taste good with cream of jam. But adding some chocolate chips or dried fruits spruces things up! And I loved having Prunes in these Scones πŸ™‚
