7 cup Barfi derives its name from the fact that we use 7 cups of ingredients to make this delicious Indian cake / fudge like sweet. Super rich & delicious – gluten free too! 🙂

Today I am going to share a delicious Indian sweet with all of you.

Unlike most recipes, the name of this sweet is derived from the amount of ingredients used rather than the type of ingredients. If you look at the recipe, you’ll find that we use a total of 7 cups of ingredients. Smart, eh? 🙂

You could call this an Indian version of fudge. Rich, gluten-free, melt-in-your-mouth delicious, this 7 cup Barfi totally wins brownie points from anyone who tastes it!

You’ll need –

Add all dry ingredients in a large pan with high sides & mix well.

Add the Ghee and milk and mix well

Place on the flame and let it come to a boil.

Start stirring. Keep stirring continuously from bottom up

You mustn’t stop stirring or lumps will start to form

In 15-20 minutes, you’ll see the mixture start to thicken up. Stir well until you have a thick mixture

Meanwhile, grease a rectangular baking pan / plate with high sides with Ghee

Pour this hot mixture on the plate, tap to level .

Let it cool completely at room temperature. Cut into squares or bars and serve!

This can be stored at room temperature for 10 days or in the fridge for over a month.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Besan (Chickpea flour / Kadalai maavu)
  • 3 cups Sugar
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 cup Freshly Grated Coconut
  • 1 cup Ghee (clarified butter), plus more for greasing

Instructions

  1. Add all dry ingredients in a large pan with high sides & mix well.
  2. Add the Ghee and milk and mix well
  3. Place on the flame and let it come to a boil. Start stirring. Keep stirring continuously from bottom up. You mustn’t stop stirring or lumps will start to form

Use fresh Besan (Chickpea flour) for this sweet. You also need to use Ghee (Clarified Butter) that you can make at home or buy.
