Funfetti Cupcakes

  • 1/3 cup plain Yogurt (or sour cream / curd)
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/4 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Tablespoons vanilla Custard Powder (*Note 1 below)
  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour
  • a pinch of Salt
  • 1/4 cup Sprinkles / Funfetii (or more)

For the glaze

  • 4 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 12 teaspoons Milk (or more)


  • Custard powder just gives the cupcakes a yellow color. You can skip it if you want.
  • Making the glaze is optional


  1. In a mixing bowl, beta the sugar and yogurt together.
  2. Add baking powder & baking soda. Mix well and set aside for 5 minutes until you see a lot of air bubbles.
  3. Add oil, vanilla extract and mix well.
  4. Add the custard powder and mix well
  5. Add the flour and salt. Mix until you have a smooth batter. (Do not overmix or you’ll end up with bread like consistency)
  6. Add in the Funfetti (or Sprinkles). Fold it into the batter. (The sprinkles / funfetti start to melt a bit and give you a colorful batter)
  7. Pour into prepared cupcake molds.
  8. Bake at 150C for 18-20 minutes or until the cupcakes are fully cooked through. Let them cool completely.
