If you’ve ever sunk your teeth into a crumbly buttermilk biscuit and experienced its goodness, then believe me when I say Nutella will make it even better.

And if you haven’t ever had a buttermilk biscuit, I think it is time for you to start. Do you even know what you’re missing out? 🙂 Let me give you a brief description of how this tastes like…

These nutella buttermilk biscuits are buttery and soft and crumbly with a sweet swirl of Nutella. They would be a great addition to any brunch table. They are also great as an afternoon snack or dessert. You really can’t go wrong with Nutella Biscuits any time of the day.   
Nutella Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe | Nutella Drop Biscuits (Eggless)These are what you call “drop biscuits”. I love making them because you don’t have to roll or cut or anything! Just make the batter and drop spoonfuls onto the baking sheet! It is that easy!

So let’s address another issue, shall we. I know it must be killing you wondering why my biscuits are so oddly shaped?! 😀 Well, I ended up using some extra liquid and so, my biscuits spread more than necessary. I made the mistake so that you wouldn’t have to! 😉 Just follow the Printable Recipe (below the pictorial) and you should be fine!

In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Add cold butter cubes into the flour.

Use a fork to break up the butter into the flour until the flour resembles coarse meal. It is important to keep the butter cold to get a crumbly texture.

Add the buttermilk (I added a bit too much. Please refer to the CORRECT amount in the printable recipe below)

Stir with a spatula until just combined. Do NOT over-mix or you’ll end up with a tough, chewy biscuit.

Add drops of nutella in the batter-like-dough

Gently swirl the Nutella into the biscuit dough.

Drop round spoonfuls of dough, about three tablespoons, onto prepared baking sheet. Best way to do this would be to use a a small ice cream scoop

Bake for 12-15 minutes or until tops are slightly golden brown.

Remove from oven, let cool to room temperature and serve.

Nutella Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Powdered Sugar (adjust if more required)
  • 3 tablespoons COLD butter, cut into cubes (preferably unsalted)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt (skip if using salted butter)
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk (plus a few spoons more, if too thick)
  • 1/4 cup Nutella
  • Sea salt, for sprinkling on biscuits – optional

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or use the silicon mat to avoid biscuits form sticking. Preheat oven to 200 C / 400 F
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add cold butter cubes into the flour. Use a fork to break up the butter into the flour until the flour resembles coarse meal. It is important to keep the butter cold to get a crumbly texture.
  4. Add the buttermilk and stir with a spatula until just combined. Do NOT over-mix or you’ll end up with a tough, chewy biscuit.
  5. Add drops of nutella in the batter-like-dough Gently swirl the Nutella into the biscuit dough. Taste and if more sweetness required, mix in powdered sugar
  6. Drop round spoonfuls of dough, about three tablespoons, onto prepared baking sheet. Best way to do this would be to use a a small ice cream scoop or two tablespoons
  7. Sprinkle some sea salt on top of each biscuit – if you want to.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until tops are slightly golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven, let cool to room temperature and serve.

*Footnote: Who loves Nutella?! 😉 You can use any Chocolate Hazelnut Paste (or any chocolate paste for that matter) for this Drop Biscuit recipe. Use an ice cream scoop spoon to make your job easier. And using a silicon baking mat on the baking sheet makes it easy to scoop out the biscuits!
