The Global Snus Market

I recently came across Snus – a moist, smokeless, finely ground tobacco product that originated in Sweden over 200 years ago. This product is increasingly getting popular in the United States for quite a few reasons. Here’s a quick guide on what you need to know about Snus, how to use it, where to buy it and more!

In October 2019, the FDA released a note that said – “using general snus instead of cigarettes puts you at a lower risk of heart disease, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer, stroke, and emphysema.” One of the biggest advantages of the Smokeless Tobacco – as seen by many in the tobacco industry – is that it is a much better alternative to smoking.

Snus is a smokeless tobacco that you consume orally – it is sold in pouches (with finely ground powder in it). When the snus is processed, it causes pasteurization of tobacco, removing potentially harmful nitrate-forming microbes. This whole process is believed to cause lower levels of tobacco, this making this product a much less harmful alternative to smoking cigarettes.

The ingredients of snus mainly include – salt, water, fire and cured tobacco. The processing of snus can be different in the United States and Europe, but studies have shown the quality of the products of the amounts of nicotine in both cases have been very closely identical. In the US, snus is sold in smaller portion sizes. It also tends to be sweeter to hide the tobacco flavors.

With increasing number on bans on smoking worldwide, snus is increasingly gaining market share, with a projected CAGR of 11%. With product diversification like flavored snus available around the world, the market share is expected to grow. If you’re curious about Snus and would like to try it as an alternative to smoking, you could find a bunch of resources online. One of the most popular snus brands is Shiro Snus. Another popular one is G4 Deep Freeze White Slim Snus which comes with a strong minty flavor.
